Gurgles is Found!

I'm not going to lie. We've been frantic over the last three weeks or so, every waking minute going into finding our precious buddy Gurgles. Everything had dropped by the wayside as we scan craig's list, Boing Boing, and the Weekly World News looking for some sign that little Gurgles had turned up. And lo and behold, here we find him hopping up and down trying to get into Mr. Wonton late one night right in our own neighborhood!

In any case, now the little munchkin is safe at home, eating our peanut butter and our aluminum foil and howling plaintively during the most dramatic moments of our network TV shows. And we're so happy to have him home. Many thanks to everyone who kept their eyes out. And if you see one of us taking the little guy for a walk in Prospect Park, say hi!

Gurgles Battling it Out!

Reader tprince saw Gurgles battling it out with a strange creature on Saturday night, which is probably the source of his beat up appearance. (Check out the illustration above for visual reference.) Hear's part of his eyewitness description (thanks tprince):

"....they were at it beneath the grates... There was a group of us, looking down. Didn't know what he was til I seen the sign. Glad I did- coz I thought I was trippin, green little guy with red spots- whats that. I think Gurgles won. Glad to see he still walking around. Go gurgles. Hope you people find your pet."

Not sure what this almost rat was, although it could have been a Blood Sucking Sewer Swine - very rare, but they do live under the grates in sewer and subway systems all over the world. But that's a later post, when I can describe the creature in more detail. In the meantime, do send us your Gurgles sightings as we try to track his progress across the city and find him.

And coming soon: Descriptions of the Centurion Pigeon-Toed Bat Fish and the amazing Nova Scotia Rabbit Snake! Plus I have some pictures of my trip to Freedonia.

Gurgles the Winner of Popularity Poll

Well, Gurgles is the winner of this month's Unbelievably Strange Popularity Poll, and it's no surprise to those of us who know and love him. Now if we could just find him.

To the left is C. Taylor Bonnell's loving artist's sketch of a eye witness Gurgles sighting on the F train at Smith and Ninth Streets. If you were at that subway station from 9-11pm on Sunday the 14th of September, and you saw Gurgles, please drop us a line in the comments field below.

We're very concerned. As you can see, our little beloved Leaf Sneezer is already a little the worse for the wear, no doubt the result of a fight with his biological enemy - the rat.

Gurgles Still Missing, Sadly.

We're getting reports of Gurgles sightings all over the City, and we'll be sharing some of those in an attempt to find the little munchkin. At least we know he's alive and seemingly well, even if he's no longer cooing the night away in our rooftop steam hut.

Gurgles is Missing!

Gurgles, our pet Abyssinian Leaf Sneezer, is missing! He escaped from his roof-top steam hut in Brooklyn a little more than a week ago, and we're desperately looking for him. If you see him, contact us here at The Unbelievably Strange Wildlife Garden aka treesquid. Gurgles is taking medicine to prevent psychotic episodes so do be careful if you see him. He's not dangerous, but may injure himself if he smells Lavender perfume.

If you do find him, he's easy to capture:

1.) Softly hum the theme from the television show Rawhide; this will lull him into a hypnotic state.
2.) Offer him your wrist, slowly and carefully.
3.) He will instinctively latch onto it with his suction cup paws.
4.) You can then carry him home. As soon as you stop humming the theme from Rawhide he will let go of your wrist and you can drop him into a animal friendly confinement space.
5.) If you need to feed him, you can give him any kind of fruit skin or insect.

Gurgles was a gift from my ex-girlfriend when I was living in Brazil (Leaf Sneezers are native to that country). I know the Rawhide thing is weird, but as infants, Abyssinian Leaf Sneezers bond with a sound. Usually this is the mother's distinctive song breath, but the mother of my Leaf Sneezer died in child birth on the streets of Sao Paulo. When he was brought to my apartment in Liberdade, he ended up bonding with South American reruns of Rawhide. If I'd known, I would have chosen Bossa Nova.
